A large complex of sunspots began to pass through the Sun-Earth line
The largest sunspot complex in 2025 appeared on the Earth-facing side of the Sun a week ago. In the next three days, it will pose the maximum danger to the Earth, scientists consider the complex to be one of the largest in the current century. This was announced on December 6 by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS in its Telegram channel.
"Among the distinctive features, we can note the relatively low dynamics of the spots observed here — with the exception of continuous local rearrangements, the global structure of the complex has hardly changed over the past few days," the publication says.
Despite the high estimated probability of high-level outbreaks, over the past five days, observers have not recorded a single record-breaking powerful outbreak. Scientists note that only an increased background of X-ray radiation is recorded, indicating a continuous release of energy and heating of the plasma. According to scientists, the most unfavorable scenario in such systems is the unexpected formation of a new large spot in the center of the group. The IKI RAS hopes that this will not happen within the next three days, and then the group will shift from the zone of direct geo-effective impact to the zone of tangential impacts.
The Institute of Applied Geophysics (IPG) reported on December 4 that the Sun had its first class M6.1 flare in a week. According to the institute, the flare lasted about 30 minutes. It is also noted that the phenomenon was accompanied by violations of HF radio communications.
