The State Duma appreciated the idea of increasing the minimum pension to 50 thousand rubles.

Any initiatives aimed at increasing the level of pension provision should be welcomed and discussed. Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor and Social Policy, expressed this opinion on Friday, December 5, responding to an initiative to increase the minimum amount of an old-age insurance pension to 50 thousand rubles.

Earlier in the day, State Duma deputies from the Fair Russia faction Sergey Mironov and Yana Lantratova addressed the chairman of the Social Fund of the Russian Federation Sergey Chirkov with a corresponding proposal. 360.ru . The authors of the initiative noted that now the minimum old-age insurance pension is 13.3 thousand rubles, while the living wage for pensioners at the federal level is set at about 15.2 thousand rubles.

"I am in favor of any additional support measures and additional pension provision for our pensioners. The most important thing is to find sources of financing and do everything possible to increase pensions. Our pensions will be indexed from January 1. This will affect both working and non-working pensioners. But I think it's right to move on in this direction, while looking for additional mechanisms to increase the level of pension provision," Nilov said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The MP added that under current legislation, Russian pensioners cannot receive a pension less than the subsistence minimum.

"If they receive a small insurance pension or a small social pension, they are paid extra up to the subsistence level. Another thing is that the cost of living is extremely low, providing only the most minimal set of needs for a pensioner," the parliamentarian shared.

Two pensions in December 2025: who is entitled to a double payment

Some retirees will receive an indexed payout at the end of 2025.

On December 3, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov (LDPR) proposed to the head of the Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov to introduce an additional annual New Year's Eve payment for all categories of pensioners. It was clarified that this payment will not be taxed and must be made no later than 14 days before December 31 every year.
