- A retired police officer named a possible motive for the murder of his colleague in the 90s.
Retired police major Viktor Solopov believes that the murder of Vladimir Lilak, an operative at the Ryazan Avenue police department in the capital, in 1999 could have been connected with revenge for exposing a band of robbers from among renegade policemen. Arkady Z., with whom Lilak had previously worked together, was convicted of a similar crime.
A 65-year-old Muscovite detained on charges of murdering an officer and his wife was released from a penal colony shortly before the shooting of his family, where he was serving a sentence for participating in a gang of robbers. A gang of police officers attacked the so-called shadow workers (representatives of underground businesses who supplied citizens with scarce goods at an inflated price).
"Vladimir Lilak is a truly correct policeman who did not betray his comrades, performed his duties honestly and properly, and treated his family and beloved wife with reverence. A man who could be trusted with his back," says Izvestia's source.
The investigation into the murder of 26 years ago was previously reported in the TFR.
