Moscow volunteers were awarded honorary badges of distinction
20 residents of the capital received the insignia "Volunteer of Moscow" of the first degree. According to Deputy Mayor of Moscow Natalia Sergunina, the ceremony was timed to coincide with Volunteer Day.
The award was presented to Muscovites who have been systematically involved in socially significant projects for more than five years and have made an important contribution to the development of the volunteer movement. "Together, the holders of the badge of honor have devoted more than 50,000 hours to volunteering. These are people of different ages and professions. They represent patriotic, cultural, event-based and other areas of volunteerism," Sergunina said.
In particular, the awards were given to the volunteers of the Mosvolonter resource center, representatives of the directorate of the Rossiya Achievements Exhibition and the Union of Volunteers, an autonomous non-profit organization for the support and development of volunteer activities. Only legal entities, such as non—profit organizations, companies, educational institutions, and government authorities, can nominate candidates worthy of encouragement. This year, they have submitted almost 1.1 thousand applications.
The Moscow Volunteer award was established in 2022. Previously, it was awarded annually to 30 Muscovites, and now up to 100 people can receive the award. In addition to increasing the number of laureates, three degrees of the badge were introduced this year. To qualify for the first one, you need to have at least five years of volunteer experience, for the second one — at least three years, for the third one — at least a year. Experts also take into account the number of hours of volunteer work and the social significance of projects. The presentation of the II and III degree insignia will take place until the end of December.
