On Friday evening and during the first December weekend, motorists will be checked on Russian roads. Traffic police will pay special attention to the problem of drunk driving, and regional traffic police departments have announced the raids.

Preventive measures will be carried out on the roads of Samara, Tver, Ivanovo, Ulyanovsk, Vologda, Kirov, Tambov, Smolensk regions and in other regions of the country.

"Driving under the influence of alcohol is a gross violation of traffic regulations, which leads to the most serious consequences. A drunk driver risks not only his own life, but also the lives of his passengers and other road users. We remind you about the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated and ask citizens who see that a drunk person is planning to get behind the wheel of a car or motorcycle, behaves inappropriately, creates dangerous situations on the road, to report this to the police — according to this information, all necessary response measures will be taken. Such a message can save someone's life," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the propaganda department of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry.

Earlier that day, the State Traffic Inspectorate announced that information published by a number of media outlets about the allegedly planned introduction of regulations aimed at limiting the registration of vehicles with extended service life was not true.
