At a press conference in Moscow, the results of a large-scale social campaign "Promoting Safety" organized by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia were summed up. The project, implemented from June to December 2025 in 40 regions of the country, was aimed at reducing pedestrian accidents through educational work with drivers and pedestrians of all ages.

Preliminary statistical data indicate a positive trend. In the first ten months of 2025, the number of pedestrian accidents decreased by 6.6% compared to the same period last year. The death toll decreased by 6.7%.

"Unfortunately, people are dying. But there has been a decrease: 6.7% in absolute terms, which is 2,407 pedestrians killed in the first 10 months of this year. And 23,863 people were injured, that is, a decrease of 6.3%," Vladimir Kuzin, chief expert of the department for coordination of activities in the field of road safety of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, cited the figures. He added that "the targets set for us by the head of state are slowly being achieved."

Despite the overall improvement, experts identify a particularly problematic area — safety at night. According to Vladimir Kuzin, 98% of pedestrians who died in an accident at night did not have retroreflective elements on their clothes. "Especially now: it gets dark early, it gets light late, the roads are dark, the clothes are dark," he explained.

That is why a significant part of the campaign was devoted to popularizing the use of retroreflectors. The work was conducted in the format of a live dialogue. According to Vadim Melnikov, a representative of the Social Campaign project, "more than 350,000 direct contacts with the project participants were provided." Theatrical performances about traffic rules and educational films were shown for children, and interactive events were held for adults at gas stations and in parks.

Special attention was paid to working with the younger generation. Oksana Draganova, Head of the Department of State Policy in the Field of Protection of Children's Rights at the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, emphasized the role of the movement of Young Traffic Inspectors (YID) as "agents of influence" in families. "The child says, 'And we were told at school that it was necessary!"and it works," she said.

Experts agreed that only the joint efforts of the state, society and the media make it possible to form stable habits of safe behavior. As Igor Korolev, Director General of the Directorate for Road Safety, noted, a new campaign will be launched in March 2026, which will shift the focus to intersection safety. The work to save lives on the roads continues, and its main resource is the awareness of each participant in the movement.
