Raising the minimum insurance pension to 50 thousand rubles can support the economy. This was stated to Izvestia on December 5 by Fyodor Sidorov, a private investor and founder of the School of Practical Investment.

"For the economy, a cautious increase in the incomes of pensioners is useful. 41 million pensioners in Russia are a significant part of consumers. And unlike young people, they are ready to spend carefully, carefully choosing goods and looking for benefits. An increase in their income by 35-40 thousand per month would mean an additional incentive for retail trade, especially in regions where people live more economically. However, this is putting pressure on consumer demand at a time when the Central Bank is already working against overheating inflation," the expert said.

According to him, the optimal solution is a phased increase in the minimum, linked to economic indicators and the growth of Social Fund income. An increase in pensions to 50 thousand rubles within three to four years looks more realistic. Sidorov added that a decent income for pensioners is an investment in social stability, but this investment must be calculated in detail.

The expert drew attention to the fact that the gap between the minimum pension and the cost of living is partially compensated by a social supplement, but the problem of equitable distribution remains. He pointed out that the budget of the Social Fund for 2026 provides for 11.9 trillion rubles for insurance pensions with a total cost of 18.7 trillion rubles, which is already 64 percent of all fund costs. A sharp fourfold increase in the minimum payout can severely limit the possibilities of indexing.

On the same day, it was reported that deputies from the Fair Russia faction in the State Duma put forward an initiative to raise the minimum insurance pension to 50 thousand rubles. The proposal was initiated by party leader Sergei Mironov and Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society, Issues of Public and Religious Associations Yana Lantratova. Mironov believes that increasing the minimum pension to 50,000 rubles will allow the elderly to live with dignity, take care of their health and stay active.
