- A desk dedicated to the memory of Izvestia correspondent Martemyanov was opened in Donetsk.
A Hero's desk dedicated to Izvestia correspondent Alexander Martemyanov, who died in the special military operation zone, was opened in Donetsk. The December 5 footage is published by Izvestia.
The footage shows how schoolchildren of Donetsk school No. 125 honored the memory of the military commander and laid flowers.
Martemyanov's colleague, Izvestia correspondent Evgeny Bykovsky, recalled what happened on the tragic day when Martemyanov died.
"We were supposed to travel with our mutual friend to Novomikhailovka in the Kurakhovsky direction. It so happened that we had a punctured tire on our Patriot, and we returned to Donetsk to fix it. Sasha saw that there were more than 10 wounded in Gorlovka and went there," Bykovsky said.
Martemyanov was a true professional who was willing to sacrifice his safety, TASS military correspondent Dmitry Yagodkin shared.
"He knew a lot of nuances — where to hide the car, at what time to go to the place and at what time to leave," he said.
Martemyanov died on January 4 when a drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) hit a car on the Donetsk–Horlivka highway. He died from his injuries. The correspondent was buried in Donetsk on January 8.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, noted that Martemyanov's materials on Donbass "were bold and objective." In addition, the military commander provided assistance to the residents of the republic. On January 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin posthumously awarded Martemyanov the Order of Courage. He was also awarded the medal "For Bravery" II degree posthumously; the badge of merit "For Services to the Donetsk People's Republic" III degree; the Order of the Republic posthumously.
Martemyanov was born on April 9, 1990. He made materials about the events in Donbass, and for 11 years he recorded the crimes of Ukrainian neo-Nazis committed during the shelling of residential areas, being among the first to travel to the epicenter of events. He repeatedly came under fire, covered referendums, elections, and other important events. He studied at school No. 88 in the Tekstilshchik microdistrict, then in 2012 graduated from the Donetsk State Institute of Health, Physical Education and Sports at the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine.
