Production of photonic integrated circuits opened in Moscow

The Moscow Photonics Center, the world's only production of photonic integrated circuits based on three technologies, has opened on the territory of the Technopolis Moscow SEZ in Zelenograd. The start of the enterprise was given by the Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Anton Alikhanov and the Mayor of the capital Sergey Sobyanin.

The products that will be produced at the photonics center will become the basis for the introduction of 5G technologies in Russia, the development of unmanned vehicles, and the construction of new data centers, Sobyanin said in his channel in the MAX. Photonic integrated circuits are compact and energy-efficient, as well as high-speed information transmission and processing. In addition, they can reduce the cost of final products by up to 30-50% compared to their foreign counterparts.

Sobyanin stressed that Russia will become a technological leader through the creation of a critical information infrastructure. "And due to the transition of new generation data processing centers to a domestic component base, Russia's technological sovereignty and a high level of security and sustainability will be ensured," the mayor added.

The center is equipped with modern high-tech equipment. The Moscow Microelectronics Testing Laboratory is expected to start operating here in the first quarter of 2026. It will replace 70% of the services of foreign laboratories, which are necessary for the development of most high-tech industries.

The production will operate in a test mode for the first six months. Starting in June, up to 500,000 products per year are expected to be produced here. In the future, the Moscow Photonics Center will launch the production of optical modules that simplify the connection of network equipment to fiber-optic communication lines, the mayor said.
