A nine-meter whale shark was caught in India.
Fishermen in India pulled a nine—meter whale shark weighing about 5 tons onto the shore of Balasore with a catch - it took almost 100 people. This was announced on December 4 by the Indian television channel Odisha TV.
"By the time the net was pulled ashore, the giant fish was already dead," the TV channel said.
It is noted that such a large individual was caught in these places for the first time. This aroused interest among tourists and locals, who began to flock to the beach en masse to take pictures against the background of this unique specimen.
Scientific American magazine reported that the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora updated its rules on iconic shark and stingray species on December 1. Now mammals have a chance to be saved in the face of the threat of extinction. They are mainly caught for the liver, which is rich in the chemical compound squalene, which is used in the manufacture of cosmetics and other goods. New protection measures regulate the trade of this species across borders and improve monitoring standards.
