The State Duma talked about the method of obtaining maternity capital abroad
Russian families whose children were born abroad can apply for maternity capital, provided that the newborn has the citizenship of the Russian Federation as the first or only one. This was announced on December 5 by Tatyana Butskaya, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for the Protection of Family, Motherhood and Childhood.
She explained that in order to receive maternity capital, parents need to apply to the Russian consulate abroad immediately after the birth of the child in order to register his citizenship of the Russian Federation. Without this procedure, they will not be able to bring the child to Russia without proper documents.
Butskaya also noted that such situations are becoming more common, as pregnant women often travel, including late in pregnancy, go on business trips or begin childbirth prematurely. Medical tourism among pregnant women is also a popular phenomenon.
"It is important that the child's first citizenship should be Russian. Perhaps in the future he will receive some kind of second citizenship," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
