Anastasia Potapova's transfer to the Austrian national team will not be a loss for Russian tennis. The corresponding statement was made on December 4 by the president of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev.

"Her departure has nothing to do with the lack of funding and courts in the country. She's been complaining a lot lately," Tarpishchev told TASS.

He noted that for Russia, the change of Potapova's sports citizenship is not a loss. At the same time, he expressed regret that the Russian athlete preferred to join the Austrian national team.

Potapova, who is 24 years old, ranks 51st in the ranking of the Women's Tennis Association. She has won three tournaments under the auspices of the WTA. After changing her citizenship, she will become the first racket of Austria, ahead of Julia Grabher (94th place). Potapova's best result at Grand Slam tournaments is reaching the fourth round of the French Open in 2024. In 2016, she won the Junior Wimbledon.

Potapova's transfer became known earlier in the day. She announced that she will represent Austria from 2026.
