The Russian side reserves the right to respond to the UK's actions to impose sanctions against the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU). This was announced on December 4 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, at a briefing.

"The Russian side does not recognize the illegitimate sanctions imposed under far—fetched pretexts bypassing the UN Security Council, and reserves the right to take retaliatory measures," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, London can be sure of the "inevitability of such measures."

Earlier this day, the British authorities expanded the sanctions list against Russia, adding 12 more positions to it. So, allegedly "three officers" of the GRU were included in the sanctions list. According to Britain, they are allegedly responsible for "organizing hostile activities in Ukraine and throughout Europe."
