Import of used cars in Russia increased by 83% in November
In November, 59.8 thousand used cars (older than three years) were imported to Russia. This is 83% more than in November 2024, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said in his Telegram channel on December 4.
"Such a strong growth is associated with the dates of the introduction of new recycling tariffs. Last year it happened from October 1, and this year from December 1. Therefore, import peaks have shifted," the analyst explained.
In just 11 months of this year, 442.6 thousand used cars were imported to Russia (+21%). More than half of them (51.3%) were produced in 2021-2022, 54% have a left-hand steering wheel. Most used cars (43.4%) were imported from Japan (192 thousand units), followed by South Korea (22.8%; more than 100 thousand units) and China (15.9%; almost 70 thousand units).
Toyota became the most popular brand (10.4 thousand in November and almost 87 thousand since the beginning of the year). More than 80% of them have a right-hand steering wheel. Honda is in second place (7.5 thousand and 70 thousand, respectively), of which 83% of cars are right-hand drive. BMW rounded out the top three (6.8 thousand and 42 thousand units, respectively), while the Bavarian brand is the leader in terms of imports of left-hand drive vehicles. The top 10 also includes Kia, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Audi, Nissan and Mazda.
The report of the analytical agency Autostat, which was received by Izvestia on December 3, reported that by the end of November, 127.9 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 5% more than in November 2024. The Lada Granta model retained the title of the bestseller in the primary Russian car market, the Haval Jolion remained the best-selling foreign car, and two models of the Russian brand Tenet entered the top five.
