A shade of white called "Cloud Dancer" ("Dancing with clouds") declared the color of 2026 by the American Pantone Color Institute. This was reported on December 4 by The New York Times (NYT).
According to the newspaper, this is the first time in the 26-year history of Pantone forecasts when the shade of white was chosen as the color of the year. The official color code is PANTONE 11-4201. According to the institute's experts, "Cloud Dancer" symbolizes a calming influence in a troubled society and represents a "blank canvas" on which to start all over again.
The publication notes that the choice of white color can cause ambiguous associations in the current political context, especially in the United States, but Pantone describes it as a symbol of peace, unity and cohesion. The NYT also mentions that Ralph Lauren has already presented winter collections for the US national team at the 2026 Olympic Games, made mainly in white tones.
Pantone's 2025 color was "Mocha Mousse" (a shade of brown). According to the NYT, the forecast turned out to be accurate — brown has indeed become universally popular in fashion and design this year.
