The expert spoke about the changes in the payment of burial allowances in 2026

In 2026, the Social Fund of Russia will pay the burial allowance in case of death of an employee directly, which will eliminate the need to contact the employer. Lawyer Lyubava Trofimova recalled this in an interview with Izvestia.

This rule was introduced on January 1, 2025, and now recipients of payments do not need to interact with the organization where the deceased worked. Previously, a different scheme was in effect: the employer (the policyholder) first paid the benefit at the expense of the fund, and then received compensation.

"Now the employer is no longer involved in the chain in any way. That is, the recipient of the benefit does not go to the employer, but directly to the pension fund," the lawyer explained.

The transition to direct payments is aimed at simplifying the procedure for citizens and minimizing the risks associated with dependence on the financial condition or efficiency of the employer. The procedure, timing of the appointment and payment of benefits will be regulated by the unified federal standards of the Social Fund of Russia.
