The accession of the Faroe Islands to anti-Russian sanctions forces Moscow to consider the possibility of taking a number of adequate retaliatory measures. This was announced on December 4 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"The new unfriendly actions of the autonomy call into question the commitment of the Faroese side to the agreement on mutual fisheries relations between the USSR and the Faroe Islands of November 27, 1977, because they undermine the prospects for bilateral fisheries cooperation and force the Russian side to consider introducing adequate retaliatory measures," TASS quoted the diplomat as saying.
