Former Prime Minister Stepashin proposed targeted measures instead of blocking WhatsApp

On December 4, Sergei Stepashin, former Prime Minister of Russia and chairman of the Russian Bar Association, proposed targeted restrictions as an alternative to completely blocking WhatsApp (owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist in Russia).

"I am not in favor of closing everything. <...> Let's look at the substantive side again: where there is extremism, terrorism, it can be blocked," he said in an interview with TASS.
