A bill has been submitted to the State Duma (State Duma), according to which regional authorities will be able to close retail outlets at night — this way they will fight the illegal sale of alcohol. This was reported by Izvestia on December 3.

This measure is aimed at solving a problem that is especially relevant for small shops located in residential buildings. Many of these stores use various schemes for the sale of alcoholic beverages, including being registered as catering establishments or making payments through cash registers in the morning. In some cases, counterfeit products that are not registered in the system are sold altogether.

According to the authors of the bill, banning alcohol sales by itself does not solve the problem, and additional measures are needed to effectively combat illegal trade, such as temporary restrictions on the operation of retail outlets.

On November 25, the Kurgan Regional Duma announced that the retail sale of alcoholic beverages in the region would be reduced to 20:00. It was noted that the deputies adopted amendments to the law "On the establishment of restrictions in the retail sale of alcoholic beverages and the prohibition of trade in non-alcoholic tonic drinks (including energy drinks) in the Kurgan region." The changes will take effect on March 1, 2026.
