- Szijjarto pointed to Ukraine's demand for 160 billion euros from NATO for the maintenance of the army
Hungary will refuse to participate in the 160 billion euro financing required by Ukraine from NATO in 2026 for the maintenance of the Ukrainian army. This was announced on December 3 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"Ukraine has put forward new demands that can be compared to a bottomless pit. They have just stated that they need 160 billion euros for the maintenance of the army next year," Szijjarto told Hungarian journalists in Brussels, commenting on the results of the meeting of the foreign ministers of NATO countries. The performance was broadcast by M1 TV channel.
The minister stressed that as long as the national government is in power in Budapest, Kiev will not receive "a single penny" of money from the Hungarian budget. Szijjarto also recalled that Budapest has repeatedly refused to support NATO's initiatives to finance Ukraine's armaments.
On the same day, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide announced that the country would allocate an additional 5 billion Norwegian kroner (about $500 million) for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine. According to him, this is new money that is not included in the previously agreed aid budget.
Prior to that, on December 2, Irish Prime Minister Meehan Martin, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Dublin, announced that the country would again provide assistance to Ukraine in the amount of more than €125 million. He noted that Dublin's assistance to Kiev has already amounted to more than 340 million euros, of which 170 million euros were sent in the form of humanitarian aid and 166 million euros in the form of military equipment.
