The head of the diplomatic service of the European Union (EU), Kaya Kallas, promised to cooperate with the investigation into the case of the former head of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. This was reported on December 3 by the Reuters news agency with reference to a letter from Callas to the staff of the EU diplomatic service.

In a letter sent to EU diplomatic service staff on Wednesday and viewed by Reuters, EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaya Kallas said that "the accusations are deeply shocking," the material says.

According to the publication, Kallas added that such a situation should not cast a shadow on the good work performed by the vast majority of EU employees.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the new corruption scandal in the European Union (EU) is their internal affair. He also stressed that the fight against corruption in Russia is conducted systematically and regularly.

The newspaper Le Soir reported on December 2 that Mogherini was detained in Belgium. On December 3, the European Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) announced that she and two other European officials had been suspected of misusing the association's funds.

The Euractiv portal reported on the same day that the Belgian police were conducting searches at the headquarters of the EU diplomatic service. In addition, as part of the investigation into the alleged misuse of EU funds, searches were also conducted at the College of Europe in Bruges and private homes.
