Nutritionist warned about the consequences of New Year's Eve diets
Inna Pichugina, a nutritionist at the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region, said that attempts to lose weight urgently for the New Year on a strict diet can result in overeating at the festive table and weakening the immune system, making a person more vulnerable to viruses.
As reported in the press service of the department on Wednesday, December 3, she noted that "hungry" diets almost inevitably lead to breakdowns, as the body seeks to make up for nutritional deficiencies. According to her, the best protection against overeating is a full breakfast, lunch and dinner before the holidays, then the body will not signal a lack of micro- and macronutrients.
She also warned that strict restrictions weaken the immune system, because antibodies are built from proteins that come from meat, fish, dairy products, eggs, legumes, nuts and cereals. Fats, vitamins, and probiotics are essential for immune cells to function.
At the same time, the expert emphasized, it is safe to reduce the calorie content of the diet: bake meat, fish and poultry instead of frying, add more vegetables to salads and use light dressings — yogurt, sour cream, lime juice or mustard. She also recommended avoiding sugary sodas and packaged juices, Radio 1 reports.
On December 2, nutritionist Roman Pristansky spoke out against the new "planetary diet", pointing out the climatic and cultural characteristics of different regions. The expert stressed that nutritional needs strongly depend on the climate and there can be no universal solutions.
On November 17, neurologist Margarita Naprienko told the website kp.ru that hunger and overeating are unexpected triggers of migraines. According to her, hard cheeses, chocolate and red wine are among the well—known food provocateurs. The doctor also warned that strict diets and prolonged fasting reduce glucose levels, which disrupts vascular tone, including brain vessels, and can cause a migraine attack. 360.ru .
In July, Pristansky said that the diet does not always provide for strict restrictions on food. According to him, first of all, any diet should be based on the right nutrients, writes RT. Also, the dosage of the consumed product is important in any food.
In June, a study showed that more than half of Russians periodically go on diets, and over 70% arrange a cheat day for themselves, when they can go beyond the usual diet. This is not a spontaneous breakdown, but a conscious meal in which one serving of a prohibited product is allowed, writes NSN.
