The rights to show the Russian-Chinese film "Red Silk" in Japan have been sold, they were acquired by the leading Japanese TV channel WOWOW. This was announced on December 3 by the press service of the film company Art Pictures Distribution.

The premiere is scheduled for January 2026.

WOWOW is the first commercial satellite channel in Japan, operating since 1991. His target audience is educated, wealthy urbanites who are interested in watching high—quality movies.

In parallel with the television release, "Red Silk" will be released on leading Japanese VOD platforms. According to Art Pictures Distribution, this will provide the project with maximum coverage among the traditional television audience and the younger digital generation.

"The deal with WOWOW is an important step towards the development of the Japanese market. Art Pictures Distribution plans to expand its presence in this territory and is discussing with colleagues projects from the catalog that have high potential and may become interesting to a Japanese audience," the company's press service emphasizes.

Screen time: the premiere of "Red Silk" was a success in Beijing

The film was presented to the Chinese audience by Milos Bikovic and Zheng Hanyi.

The Global Times reported on September 5 that the film "Red Silk", which premiered in China on September 4, made a strong impression on viewers in China. The film entered the top 10 highest-grossing films of the year at the Russian box office. Chinese viewers shared their impressions after watching the painting. By October 9, the blockbuster had grossed almost $2 million at the Chinese box office.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question from Izvestia about Red Silk on September 3, stressed that the idea of joint film production between Russia and China belongs to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The film was created with the participation of NMG Kinoprokat, a company that is part of the National Media Group holding. The film's distributor in China is the largest film corporation, China Film Group.
