Russian tourists increasingly prefer to celebrate the New Year in nature, choosing active recreation away from the hustle and bustle of the city. According to the Ostrov online booking service, in 2025, one in ten bookings are for nature destinations, reflecting the growing interest in hiking and scenic walks. The company's analysts told Izvestia about this on December 4.

Kamchatka is particularly popular among travelers, according to their data, where interest in New Year's tours has increased by almost a third compared to last year.

"The region attracts with the opportunity of a secluded vacation, visiting hot springs, observing the northern lights and unique gastronomy. The average cost of a night in local hotels is 7,050 rubles," the study said.

Baikal remains no less in demand, and the demand for reservations in the region has increased by 16%. Tourists are attracted by ice routes, the Circum-Baikal Railway and picturesque coves, while the average price per night ranges from 5,600 to 6,200 rubles, depending on the region.

Murmansk and the Kola Peninsula offer to celebrate the holiday under the northern Lights, with the possibility of snowmobiling on the tundra and along the fjords. Irina Kozlova, managing director of the Ostrov service, noted that interest in the Russian North is steadily growing, with Russians planning 18% more trips for the upcoming holidays. The average cost of accommodation here reaches 8,800 rubles per night.

Karelia attracts tourists with its quiet winter routes, excursions to the Ladoga Skerries National Park and the opportunity to see faint flashes of the northern Lights, while the prices for accommodation here are the highest — about 9200 rubles per night.

"The resorts of the Caucasian Mineral Waters are becoming a choice for those who prefer a mild climate, outdoor activities and wellness programs. The most budget—friendly accommodation options are offered in Yessentuki and Mineralnye Vody, where the average price is 4,500-4,700 rubles, while in Kislovodsk it reaches 8,400 rubles per night," the analysts noted.

This trend indicates a shift in the priorities of Russian tourists towards recreational outdoor recreation during the New Year holidays.

Alexander Osaulenko, Vice President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry, said on July 23 that new destinations for tourists, including international trends, are opening up in Russia. At the same time, there is an increase in demand for travel to the Middle East. He recalled that new destinations are opening up in Russia this year, for example, the countries of the Middle East — Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia. According to international indicators, these areas are among the most advanced in terms of dynamics.
