- The prosecutor requested a year in prison for Akunin for failing to fulfill his duties as a foreign agent.
The state prosecution asked the court to sentence the writer Grigory Chkhartishvili in absentia. (pseudonym — Boris Akunin, recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent, included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring) to one year in prison. This was reported on December 3 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.
Together with the previous sentence, the prosecution asked Akunin to be sentenced to 15 years in prison, the first four years of which he will spend in prison, and the rest of the term in a high—security colony.
According to investigators, Chkhartishvili, who was twice brought to administrative responsibility within one year for violating the legislation on foreign agents, posted at least 76 publications on social networks from February to August 2025, without specifying his status as a foreign agent.
In July 2025, the Second Western District Military Court of Moscow sentenced Akunin in absentia to 14 years in a high-security penal colony on charges of facilitating terrorist activities and publicly justifying terrorism. In addition, the writer was deprived of the right to administer websites, and he was also fined 400 thousand rubles.
On October 23, the Taganskaya interdistrict prosecutor's office announced that it had approved the indictment in Akunin's case in absentia.
A criminal case was opened against Akunin for publicly justifying terrorism and spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces in December 2023. In the following months, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested him in absentia. The writer was put on the international wanted list and entered into the register of foreign agents.
