The expert gave advice on choosing a gift for a partner for the New Year
On the eve of the New Year, many couples face the difficulty of choosing gifts: it seems that a loved one already has everything they need and it becomes difficult to buy something original. However, the main thing is not the cost, but attention to the habits and daily needs of the partner, Natalia Krasilnikova, PR director of the Mamba dating service, told Izvestia on December 4.
"The phrase "a partner has everything" often means that basic household needs are already closed and care and comfort are more important to a person than a new thing in the closet. A gift is perceived as a sign of participation if it fits into the usual daily routine and helps in a specific situation," the expert said.
According to her, support can relate to any part of the daily route: the road to work, office, rest at home. A gift that makes these moments more convenient is perceived especially warmly. At the same time, impressions and time together often have a greater impact on relationships than objects. It can be a short trip, a concert, a master class, or just an evening without work messages - the main thing is that the format matches the couple's habits and is really available for use in the coming months.
Krasilnikova emphasized that practical things tailored to a specific person remain a universal solution: a warm blanket, home clothes, a thermocup for those who are often on the road, a table lamp or a subscription to a useful service. Many ideas are related to updating items that people constantly use: a workplace chair, an additional monitor, a document organizer, or a high-quality humidifier. "Contribution gifts" are also popular: a course of study, a subscription to massage or medical programs, annual car maintenance.
Choosing the right gift is often prompted by a casual conversation.
"People regularly mention minor inconveniences: going to the doctor for a long time, freezing at home, unable to sleep because of an uncomfortable pillow, constantly looking for a phone charger. Such complaints can easily be turned into an understandable and accurate gift. Digital footprints also help: wish lists on marketplaces, saved products, likes on social networks, subscriptions to brands or leisure formats. A brief look at this data shows which things or impressions a person really likes, but he is in no hurry to buy them on his own," the expert explained.
She also advised avoiding casual purchases for the sake of the promotion: first, it is better to determine the purpose of the gift — to make the house more comfortable, simplify the morning, make the working day easier, or support a hobby — and only then look for profitable offers. It is also important to monitor the terms of use of certificates and subscriptions.
However, there are categories that can cause embarrassment, especially in the early stages of a relationship: things that are binding or too expensive, as well as gifts with a hint of a change in appearance or habits. A hard subscription to a fitness club, weight correction programs, or expensive jewelry from a stranger is often perceived as pressure, Krasilnikova said. In doubtful cases, it is safer to choose neutral and useful options that demonstrate attention, but do not invade personal boundaries.
On the same day, family psychologist Daria Salnikova told us how to survive the New Year's rush and celebrate the holiday happily. A calm December begins with reasonable planning: you should not postpone everything for the last 10 days, and now you can do something that saves time and nerves, for example, order gifts without fuss and queues. According to her, such preparation helps to choose the right things, meet the budget and gradually adjust to the holidays.
