Peskov called the new corruption scandal in the region an internal matter of the EU
The new corruption scandal in the European Union (EU) is their internal affair. This was announced on November 3 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"As for corruption scandals in the EU, this is an internal matter of the EU. Corruption is a phenomenon that exists everywhere, and different countries and associations are fighting this evil with varying effectiveness," he said.
Peskov also stressed that the fight against corruption in Russia is conducted systematically and regularly.
The European Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) announced on the same day that the former head of the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, and two other European officials were suspected of misusing the union's funds.
According to the newspaper Le Soir, on December 2, Mogherini was detained in Belgium in a fraud case related to an EU-funded training program for diplomats. Besides her, two other people were also detained.
The French newspaper Le Monde reported on December 3 that after Mogherini's detention, the EU diplomatic service was in shock. At the same time, Herman van Rompuy, the former president of the European Council, said that he did not know anything about the case under consideration.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that the EU often turns a blind eye to its internal problems, but at the same time "actively teaches other countries."
