The talks between the special envoy of the American leader, Steve Witkoff, and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow are very important, and therefore NATO is in very close contact with the United States. This was announced on December 3 by the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte.

"Last night, of course, was important. There will be other steps, but you won't hear any comments from me on each intermediate step. We are closely coordinating with the Americans, but we do not comment on every step," Rutte said after arriving in Brussels for a meeting of NATO foreign ministers, broadcast on the alliance's website.

At the same time, he added that despite the peaceful efforts of the United States, the alliance intends to continue to purchase weapons for Ukraine.

"We must speed up our contribution to PURL (EU purchases of American weapons for Kiev. — Ed.) and urgently deliver the necessary equipment to Ukraine," the NATO Secretary General said.

The meeting between Witkoff and Putin ended late at night on December 3. This visit was the sixth in a year for the special envoy of the American leader. The negotiations lasted about five hours. At a briefing, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that during the talks the parties discussed the territorial issue. He noted that the meeting was constructive and useful, but the details of the negotiations between the Russian and American sides agreed to keep secret.
