The court in Novosibirsk arrested the head of the Department of regional management of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation

A court in Novosibirsk has arrested Leonid Kharitonov, head of the second department for the investigation of particularly important cases of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Kemerovo region – Kuzbass. This was announced on December 3 by the press service of the courts of general jurisdiction of the Novosibirsk region.

"In respect of Leonid Sergeevich Kharitonov <...>, a preventive measure has been chosen in the form of detention for a period of 1 month and 23 days, that is, until January 24, 2026," the courts' Telegram channel says.

The representative of the department is accused of a crime under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Receiving a bribe on an especially large scale by an official"). The resolution has not yet entered into force.

He faces up to 15 years in prison from representatives of the funeral business.

On December 1, the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Svetlana Petrenko, announced that a criminal case had been opened in the Kemerovo Region against Kharitonov in connection with a corruption crime. The illegal remuneration was to be used to commit illegal acts in favor of the defendants in the criminal case, which was investigated by the unit.
