- Hundreds of landfills have been eliminated in the forests of the Irkutsk region since the beginning of the year.
Since the beginning of 2025, hundreds of unauthorized landfills have been eliminated in the forests of the Irkutsk region. The regional government announces this in its Telegram channel.
"Since the beginning of 2025, 100 landfills with a total area of 70.8 hectares have been eliminated in the forests. The volume of garbage removed reached 12.1 thousand cubic meters," the report says.
Thus, 37 landfills were eliminated by specially hired contractors. They cleared 15.5 hectares and removed more than 8 thousand cubic meters of garbage. The rest of the household waste storage sites were removed during clean-up days. The events were attended by employees of the Ministry of Forestry and Forestry, the Prosecutor's Office and public organizations.
Work on the elimination of illegal landfills continues, writes IA IrkutskMedia. According to Pavel Kirdyapkin, Acting Minister of Forestry of the region, camera traps help to identify those who create them. Currently, there are 128 cameras in the forests of the Angara region, and they are periodically moved to places where violations are most likely.
In the summer, it was reported that all illegal landfills had been cleared on the lands of the forest fund in the central ecological zone of the Baikal Natural Territory. The area of three landfills in the Slyudyansky district was 2.96 hectares, and two in Olkhonsky — 6.5 hectares. To eliminate the problematic landfill in Zavorotnaya Bay, located 200 km from the Maly Sea, we had to deliver equipment and take out the garbage on a barge.
