Rusal has completed the second stage of a project to produce flat bars with a record low carbon footprint. They will be used to make aluminum cans for drinks, the company's press service said.

"The indicator was less than 3 tons of CO2/ton of aluminum (in terms of full coverage), which is the minimum indicator for the company within the framework of existing production. The project is being implemented within the framework of strategic cooperation in the development of a closed—loop economy, which started in June 2025," Rusal noted.

Three components were used in the production of ingots: secondary raw materials (its share was 64%), Allow Inertia aluminum (10.5%), produced using inert anode technology, and standard primary aluminum.

"The completion of the second stage of the project is a confirmation that our technological solutions for minimizing the carbon footprint work on an industrial scale. By increasing the share of recycled aluminum and metal produced using inert anode technology, we are showing a real path to decarbonization of the packaging industry. Such projects are forming a new responsible manufacturing industry in Russia," said Evgeny Nikitin, CEO of Rusal.

The development of expertise in the integration of recycling content into the production of primary aluminum alloys and the introduction of inert anode technology allows the company not only to reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions in its own production, but also to offer the market a product with a different environmental profile, Rusal said, emphasizing that the project sets new standards for the entire market.
