On the first day of winter, 249 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 32 people were killed and 311 injured. 24 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on December 2 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry.

As a result of 89 accidents, 48 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 41 outside their area of operation, eight pedestrians were killed, and 83 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 16 young pedestrians, nine of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.

There were 19 accidents involving buses, in which there were no fatalities, but 24 road users needed medical help. Eight bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers. Also, over the past day, 24 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 24 young road users, including seven passengers, were injured. As a result of the negligence of adult drivers of passenger vehicles, two children were killed: a passenger and a pedestrian.

So, in the Orenburg region, on 153 km of the Ilek—Tashla—Sobolevo regional highway, a 55-year-old station wagon driver drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with another car. Two passengers of the car responsible for the collision were killed in the accident, as well as a 44-year-old female driver of an oncoming car and her four-year-old son, who was in the front passenger seat in a child restraint. The ten-year-old daughter of the deceased motorist, as well as the traffic violator and four other passengers were hospitalized with injuries. The schoolgirl who was injured in a car accident was in the back passenger seat of the passenger compartment with a seat belt at the time of the incident.

In the city of Pervouralsk, Sverdlovsk region, in the morning, a 40-year-old motorist, driving a passenger car without a driver's license and with signs of intoxication, did not notice in front of him and ran over a 14-year-old schoolgirl crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. An eighth grader died.

The State Traffic Inspectorate called on citizens who have not been trained in driving schools and have not received the right to drive vehicles in accordance with the established procedure, or who have been deprived of such a right, to refrain from trying to get behind the wheel and drive on public roads. It is doubly unacceptable to do this while intoxicated. With such reckless actions, they endanger not only their personal lives and health, but also the lives and health of other road users, including children.

"We urge motorists to strictly follow the rules of the road and be more attentive on the roads of towns and cities, especially in the morning and evening. Drivers should take special care when approaching intersections and unregulated pedestrian crossings. We recommend that you do not rush to "skip" them as quickly as possible, but, on the contrary, slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to stop the vehicle to allow pedestrians to pass," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Earlier, on November 1, it was reported that following the results of the first nine months of 2025, a decrease in accident rates was recorded in Russia. The number of road accidents decreased by 2.4% (94.9 thousand cases), the number of dead — by 3.4% (10.1 thousand people), injured — by 3% (117.7 thousand people).
