The auto expert named ways to protect the car body in winter

It is possible to protect the car body in the cold season only with timely prevention, since a mixture of reagents, dirt and moisture quickly leads to chips, scratches and corrosion. Alexander Kornev, head of the Department for Work with Importers at Gazprombank Autoleasing, told Izvestia on December 3 about which tools work effectively and how to properly care for paintwork in winter.

"Polyurethane film, which is also called anti-gravity film, is often used to protect the paintwork. It is better to hide the entire body under the film, but sometimes, to save money, it is acceptable to choose the most vulnerable areas — the front fenders, bumper, hood, front pillars and roof. The service life of a good anti—gravel is about five years," the expert said, noting that the film does not come off with the paint if the body is painted with high quality.

As an alternative, Kornev named wax, which creates a thin protective layer on the body, gives shine and enhances the hydrophobic effect. He stressed that the service life of wax depends on its composition.: sprays last the least, emulsions last the longest, and pastes are the most resistant. According to the expert, the wax coating needs regular updating, which should be taken into account when choosing this method of protection.

Separately, the interlocutor noted the advantages of the ceramic coating, which contains silicon, aluminum, titanium and polymer components. He explained that ceramics provide reliable protection from UV rays, reagents, sandblasting and minor damage. Before application, Kornev emphasized, the body must be carefully prepared: washed, cleaned with special compounds and polished. The ceramic coating can last for six months or longer, but its durability depends on the quality of the product and the frequency of washing.

"It is important to remember that all formulations involve regular use. The longer the mileage, the faster the protection "falls off" and the more often you will have to update it. There are no eternal protectors — these are advertising tricks. The compositions of the same price segment are about the same, the experience of the master who works with them is much more important," the expert emphasized.

In addition, he outlined three basic winter rules. Kornev noted the importance of a preliminary inspection of the body and the removal of fresh chips, since local repairs are cheaper than full-fledged painting. He recommended washing the car regularly to prevent the accumulation of an aggressive mud mixture that accelerates corrosion. The interviewee also advised using a plastic scraper that does not scratch the surface, or a compact blower to carefully remove fresh snow.
