The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and special envoy of the American leader Stephen Witkoff is scheduled to begin in five hours, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Russia wants a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict "for many generations to come," the Russian president's spokesman added.

On December 1, Peskov said that Witkoff's planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow would take place as planned on Tuesday, December 2. He also noted that the start of negotiations is scheduled for the afternoon.

On November 27, Putin announced that Russia was ready for a serious discussion of the US plan for a settlement in Ukraine with the American side. He noted that the representatives of the countries will discuss each of the proposed items in detail at the negotiating table.
