Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump could have reached an agreement on the Ukrainian conflict long ago, if not for the intervention of European states. This was reported on December 1 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing a French official.

"If it weren't for the Europeans," a French official said earlier in the day, Putin and Trump would have reached an agreement long ago," the publication says.

In addition, the official added that Europe remains alone, as the American side breaks off relations with it. The publication also noted that the American peace plan describes the United States as an intermediary between Russia and NATO, which implies that the United States no longer considers itself a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

On December 1, the leader of the right-wing Stand Up, France party, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, explained the unwillingness of the European Union (EU) to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, the head of the EU diplomatic service, Kaya Kallas, wants to divide Russia into small states and therefore does not want to achieve peace. Dupont-Aignan added that the EU's unwillingness to achieve a peaceful settlement is also noticeable by Kiev's active financing.
