The media reported the theft of about 20 thousand ammunition for the Bundeswehr
About 20,000 rounds of ammunition intended for the Bundeswehr were stolen from a civilian truck in Germany.. This was reported on December 1 by the newspaper Spiegel, citing sources in the ministry.
"We take theft very seriously because such ammunition should not fall into the wrong hands," the source told the publication.
According to the rules of safe transportation, the German Ministry of Defense clarifies that two drivers should always be assigned to such trips so that the second one monitors the cargo. The only driver, presumably, decided to leave the truck unattended and spend the night at the hotel. In total, unknown persons stole about 10 thousand cartridges for pistols, 9 900 cartridges for assault rifles and "anti-fog" ammunition.
The Bundeswehr and local police assume that the theft was planned.
The Puls24 portal, citing data from the head of the country's Defense Ministry, Claudia Tanner, on December 27, 2024, reported that weapons and ammunition began to disappear in the Austrian army due to the negligence of military personnel and the increased incidence of theft. According to the country's Defense Ministry, in most cases, the disappearances were the result of negligence.
