The largest complex of sunspots has formed on the Sun this year, which can become a source of enormous energy, possibly for a super explosion. This was announced on December 1 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS).

The total area of this complex of spots is about 60% of the size of the largest groups of spots observed in the 21st century, and is already a third higher than the previous record of the year, set in May.

"It is still unclear what the stored energy is used for, which should be enormous at such a scale. There are two options. Either the energy is being stored for a super explosion that will go down in history, or we don't know," the Telegram channel said.

Mikhail Leus, chief specialist of the Phobos Weather Center, reported on December 1 that a powerful flare of the highest class X was recorded in the Sun in the early morning hours. The peak of solar activity occurred at 05:49 Moscow time. According to the expert, this outbreak has become one of the five most powerful since the beginning of 2025.
