Macron announced the EU's intention to find a solution to the use of Russian assets
The European Union (EU) will find a solution to use the frozen Russian assets in the interests of Ukraine, while respecting the norms of international law. This was announced on December 1 by French President Emmanuel Macron.
"On the issue of frozen Russian assets, we will find an option that will technically allow us to answer all legitimate questions that arise," he said during a press conference after meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
Macron added that this work must be completed before the next meeting of the European Council, which will be held on December 18-19. In addition, the French president noted that the key task is to ensure the protection of assets from changes.
The Financial Times newspaper reported on November 30 that the EU is exploring a new mechanism for the use of frozen Russian assets, including their transfer to a separate structure outside Belgium, in order to ensure stable financing for Ukraine.
The Politico newspaper reported on November 28 that Belgium was allegedly using the proceeds from frozen Russian assets to its advantage. It was noted that the European Commission intends to make a decision on sending Russian assets as a loan to Ukraine at an emergency meeting to be held on December 18.
At the same time, on November 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the confiscation of Russian assets located in the European Union would have negative consequences. In particular, the Russian government is developing a response pact on behalf of the head of state.
