Sergey Lunyushin, a psychologist and expert in the field of NLP, hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, spoke about the fight against depression in men.

In conversation with the agency RuNews24.Ru On Monday, December 1, the expert emphasized that depression is a universal phenomenon, regardless of gender.

The psychologist noted that the only difference is how she is experienced. Men are more likely to hide their condition — the stereotype that a man should be "strong" is still strong in society. Because of this, denial of the problem often turns into feelings of guilt and inferiority, which only deepens depression and makes it more difficult to diagnose. As a result, many people seek help at an advanced stage.

Speaking of treatment, the specialist advises starting with a health check: undergo an MRI scan of the head and neck, examine the thyroid gland. If physical causes are excluded, it's a matter of psychology. He stressed that medications can temporarily muffle the symptoms, but they do not eliminate the problem itself and, if taken for a long time, carry the risk of side effects.

In this case, it is necessary to work with a psychologist. Psychotherapy helps to identify the causes of depression and work through them, and then learn to recognize the first signs of deterioration and prevent relapses. The psychologist reminded: male depression is not a fiction and requires the same professional attention as any other.

On November 30, psychologist and NLP coach Daria Sukhanova explained the difference between seasonal melancholy and depression. The main sign is the loss of the ability to rejoice: what used to bring pleasure ceases to evoke emotions. Depression affects all areas of life, affecting sleep, appetite, libido, concentration, and memory.

On November 20, a study by scientists at St. Louis University showed that people over the age of 50 who suffer from both depression and insomnia are significantly more likely to experience Alzheimer's disease and various forms of dementia. The researchers analyzed the medical records of about 2 million patients.

In September, psychotherapist Yulia Romanenko said that male depression is often disguised as irritability, aggression and craving for extreme sports. According to her, apathy and sadness are common signs of depression, but men often suppress such states. As a result, their sadness and powerlessness can manifest themselves in the form of anger or aggression. She added that it is important to learn to understand the causes of irritability and direct the energy of anger to recovery, while contacting a specialist, writes NSN.

Earlier, endocrinologist Natalia Mokrysheva said that half of people diagnosed with obesity in Russia are in a state of clinical depression. A quarter of them already have prediabetes, and 90% of young men have laboratory-confirmed hypogonadism, the Moscow City News Agency notes.

Prior to that, Pravda. With reference to experts, she wrote that superficial advice like vitamins, healthy lifestyle and a change of scenery does not always help. If depression has gone far, it is important to look for its causes — burnout, relationship problems, financial difficulties. You need to remember how it all started, and together with a specialist, look for solutions. This is equally important for both men and women.
