The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation sentenced in absentia the head of the Sumy colony for 11 years for torturing prisoners of war

Alexander Bubenets, the head of Sumy correctional colony No. 116 in Ukraine, was sentenced in absentia to 11 years in prison for ill-treatment of prisoners of war. This was reported on December 1 by the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia.

"The investigation and the court found that Bubenets, being an official, intentionally committed attacks on physical integrity, ill—treatment, acts of violence, insulting and degrading treatment against prisoners of war," the statement said on the agency's website.

The evidence collected by the military investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia was recognized by the court as sufficient to convict. Bubenets was found guilty under part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Ill-treatment of prisoners of war").The court imposed a prison sentence of 11 years to be served in a high-security penal colony.

On November 28, the Moscow Prosecutor's Office sentenced Rostislav Karpusha, commander of the 19th St. Barbara Missile Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), to life imprisonment in absentia for firing on a beach in Sevastopol. According to the investigation, on June 23, 2024, Karpusha sent soldiers of the 4th missile Division to the area bounded by the settlements of Berezanka, Konstantinovka and Prishib of the Mykolaiv region and Novoaleksandrovka of the Kherson region. After that, the commander gave an illegal order to launch a targeted missile strike at the coordinates of the targets transmitted to them.
