Israel has completed the development of the Iron Ray laser air defense system
Israel has completed the development of its advanced Iron Beam air defense system, which uses laser technology. This was announced on December 1 by Daniel Gold, head of the Defense Research and Development Department of the Ministry of Defense of the country.
As the head of the department noted, the new development will help to fundamentally change the rules of warfare on the battlefield.
"After completing the development and comprehensive testing program that confirmed its capabilities, we are ready to make its first delivery to the Israel Defense Forces on December 30, 2025," the IDF press service quoted Gold as saying.
At the same time, the government continues to work further on new-generation systems, in accordance with the defense department's strategy.
"We are actively developing the next generation of technological "surprises" for future conflicts — in the space, offensive and defensive spheres. And we will put them into operation at the appropriate time," the Defense Minister said.
Prior to that, on October 28, the German defense concern Rheinmetall announced the completion, together with MBDA Deutschland, of the marine testing phase of the new laser system and its transfer for further tests to the military technical department WTD 91 in Meppen. The company indicated that deliveries of a combat-ready version of the weapon to the German Navy could begin as early as 2029. It was noted that the system is designed to neutralize drones, small surface targets, boats and guided missiles at close range.
