The oceanographer gave advice on actions in case of a shark attack

Anatoly Tavrichesky, an oceanographer and a member of the Russian Geographical Society, told us what to do when a shark attacks.

In conversation with aif.ru On November 30, the specialist noted that when a shark is attacked, it is possible to fight off with improvised means, for example, an underwater camera.

"The biggest mistake is to swim in places where there are sharks, without weapons at all. In extreme cases, you can fight back with improvised means - a camera, for example. You should punch a shark in the eye," the expert said.

Also, according to him, a shark baton can be used as a weapon. It consists of a wooden pole with a nail driven into its end, while the nail head allows you to make painful pokes without causing penetrating wounds to the animal.

On November 27, a bull shark attacked a couple from Switzerland on the Australian beach of Kailis Beach. First, 25-year-old Livia Mulheim was injured, and her companion, 26-year-old Lukas Schindler, rushed to help and managed to repel the attack, although he was injured. The couple reached the shore, but Libya could not be saved. Schindler survived thanks to a passerby who provided first aid in time, IA Regnum reports. Also in November, lifeguard Chance Swanson suffered a shark bite while surfing in Hawaii. Swanson barely remained conscious as he lost a lot of blood. In September, Alexander Kasumyan, head of the Department of Ichthyology at the Faculty of Biology of Lomonosov Moscow State University, told NSN that sharks often approach the shore when their prey migrates to coastal waters, and amateur divers feeding fish only enhance this effect.
