The psychology of debt addiction often has deeper roots than just financial miscalculations. Debts rarely start with numbers — they originate in the peculiarities of thinking, where survival attitudes dominate. This opinion was expressed by Assel Ismailova, a business coach and graduate student of business psychology at the Higher School of Economics, in an interview with Izvestia on December 1.

"People who have been living from loan to loan for years often mistakenly believe that the problem lies solely in insufficient income, whereas the real reason lies in psychological unpreparedness for financial stability," she believes.

According to the expert, the financial pit is a state of consciousness where shame, fear and the instinct of survival become the main advisers. When life is built around the idea of "the main thing is whether there is enough," a person stops thinking in terms of growth and multiplication of resources.

Money in this paradigm does not create a sense of freedom, but only provides temporary relief to close the "holes" that have formed. That is why, even with an increase in income, a person with the same mindset quickly returns to the starting point.

"The underlying causes of this behavior often go back to childhood, where money was associated with anxiety and limitations. Growing up, a person can consciously strive for financial well—being, but subconsciously be guided by the attitudes of "I can't" or "I don't deserve", which leads to the rejection of promising opportunities," the psychologist shared.

Debt addiction forms a vicious circle where guilt paralyzes the will and pushes for new impulsive decisions, including additional loans.

To overcome this situation, according to the expert, financial planning alone is not enough — a psychological reversal is necessary. It is important to stop being ashamed of money, perceiving it as a neutral instrument of exchange, rather than an indicator of personal worth. The key step is to replace the survival mindset with a creative mindset, when the question "how to survive" gives way to the question "what can I create".

"Getting out of debt dependence begins with the return of subjectivity — the moment when a person ceases to feel like a victim of circumstances and regains the ability to act consciously," the specialist concluded.

On October 6, psychologist Yulia Losevskaya told how much money can be given to children for pocket expenses. According to her, the amount should be symbolic and increase with age — from 50 to 300 rubles. It is important for parents to understand exactly what the child plans to spend money on: for example, at school they most often spend on meals in the cafeteria.
