Auto experts named the reasons for frequent tire wear after "overshooting"
At the end of autumn, the demand for tire service traditionally increases, when car owners switch to winter kits en masse. However, wheel maintenance is not limited to seasonal replacement. Technical specialists of SberAuto, a service for the purchase, maintenance and sale of cars, analyzed customer requests and told Izvestia on December 2 which errors most often lead to tire damage and how to extend their service life.
"Damage is most often due to the fact that car owners do not check their condition after installing new ones for the season, choose the wrong pressure or ignore the first signs of wear. But in the first weeks after the "overshooting" it is important to monitor the condition of the tires no less than before the trip," the experts said.
According to them, a breakdown violation leads to uneven abrasion of the tread, and an aggressive driving style leads to hidden damage to the frame and accelerated destruction of the rubber. Bumps into pits and curbs cause hernias and deformities, which often manifest only after a while. Improper storage conditions and improper use of tires are also among the risk factors, including mismatch of load indexes or type of coating. In addition, experts remind that the service life of most tires does not exceed five years due to the natural aging of materials.
The company emphasized that if necessary, tires should be replaced in pairs — on one axle. The average replacement cost is about 3 thousand rubles, and repairs are about 1 thousand rubles. At the same time, repairs are allowed only with minor punctures. In cases of side cuts, hernias or cracks, a complete replacement is required, as riding on damaged tires poses a safety risk. Service stations (service stations) refuse to fully repair such damages precisely for this reason.
SberAuto experts believe that most of the complaints could have been avoided if they had been more attentive to the tires in the first weeks after the seasonal replacement. It is important to inspect the tread and sidewalls regularly, fixing cracks and local deformations. The pressure must be monitored at least once a month, based on the factory settings. Rotating the wheels between the axles helps to evenly distribute wear, and avoiding aggressive driving reduces the load on the frame.
In addition, service stations usually indicate in advance the degree of wear during seasonal reinsertion, which allows car owners to plan a replacement and avoid unexpected expenses. Experts recalled that timely switching to seasonally appropriate tires is one of the key safety factors: using winter tires in summer and vice versa significantly increases risks and leads to accelerated wear.
Experts reported on November 13 that the season for replacing summer tires with winter tires started earlier this year — snow fell in early October in most of Russia. Motorists in the Far Eastern, Volga, Northwestern, Siberian and Ural districts went for tire repairs earlier than usual. At the same time, the average tire bill amounted to 7,160 rubles in October, which is 9% higher than a year earlier.
