The psychologist of the story about the causes of anxiety in winter
With the onset of winter, people's anxiety levels may increase due to the cold and lack of light. Natalia Bezus, a psychologist and teacher of psychological disciplines, told about this on December 1. "Газете.Ru ".
"Firstly, cold affects the physiology of the body. Lowering the temperature activates the sympathetic nervous system, speeding up the heartbeat and increasing the level of adrenaline," she explained.
The psychologist clarified that reducing daylight hours affects circadian rhythms and serotonin levels, which affects mood and motivation.
"Secondly, sleep and daily routine suffer in winter. Dark nights and cold conditions contribute to late risers and awakenings, disrupting sleep cycles," she added.
In addition, economic and household difficulties, such as the cost of heating and groceries, increase stress and anxiety. The expert noted that the restriction of movement in the cold increases the feeling of isolation and reduces the ability to adapt to stress.
To reduce winter anxiety, the specialist advised maintaining a regular sleep and wake schedule, engaging in physical activity even on short walks, developing self-regulation skills and seeking support from loved ones or a psychologist.
"Anxiety at such a time is a normal reaction of the body to difficult conditions, but it can be mitigated with the help of a systematic approach to the regime, physical and emotional well—being," the psychologist concluded.
Earlier, on November 14, Anna Polosina, a specialist at the Faculty of Social Communication at MGPPU, said that anxiety is more susceptible to several factors - high awareness of mental health, a tendency to introspection and the influence of social networks. According to her, the availability of information about the psyche has formed the habit of young people to be more attentive to their own condition.
