A court in the Trans-Baikal Territory imposed a fine of 950 thousand rubles to a foreigner in the case of gold bullion smuggling with a total amount of more than 21 million rubles. This was announced on December 1 by the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office.

"The court found that in 2025, a man who worked as an international bus driver purchased and tried to take out <...> four ingots of an alloy of precious metals — gold, worth over 21 million rubles," the Telegram channel of the department said.

It is noted that the crime was stopped by customs officers.

A criminal case was opened on this fact under Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Smuggling of strategically important resources").

Earlier, on July 24, in the Trans-Baikal Territory, a foreigner was detained at the state border who tried to smuggle 11 gold bars. He hid the gold in a toolbox.
