The fire on the Gambian-flagged tanker Kairos, which was attacked on Friday, November 28, near the Turkish coast, has been completely extinguished. This was announced on November 30 by the press service of the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
"The fire on the Kairos ship <...> has been completely extinguished. Negotiations are continuing with the shipping company on its towing to the port," the agency said in a Facebook message (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
The operation to tow the second attacked tanker, Virat, is also ongoing. The vessel is scheduled to be moored in the Turkeli anchorage area on Monday, December 1, the ministry added.
Earlier, on November 28, in the Black Sea off the Turkish coast, a fire broke out on the tanker Kairos, which was traveling without cargo. The incident occurred at a distance of 45 km from the coast of Turkey. According to the Ministry of Transport of the Republic, the possible cause of the fire was external interference.
On the same day, the Turkish Maritime Administration reported that the Gambian-flagged tanker Virat was attacked in the Black Sea 56 km off the coast of Turkey, but the crew was not injured. The next day, the Turkish General Directorate of Maritime Affairs informed Izvestia that the Virat tanker had suffered further damage.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on November 30 that Kiev was trying to disrupt peace talks with terrorist attacks in the Black Sea. According to the diplomat, it is important for Kiev to divert attention from the corruption scandal in Ukraine with the help of such terrorist attacks.
