Reindeer herders of the Bolshezemelskaya tundra took part in the Geographical dictation. This was reported by Izvestia on November 30.

The organizers and participants reached the reindeer herders' camp on an all-terrain vehicle. The guests were greeted in traditional toboks with hot tea and venison stew soup.

It is noted that the program has allowed to unite two different societies. On the one hand, the reindeer herders' guests got acquainted with the life of the northerners, learned how to harness sleds, select oxen for sledding and manage them. On the other hand, reindeer herders participated in Geographical Dictation for the first time. Answering the questions, they discovered a lot of new information about Russia, its nature, history and outstanding researchers.

"This is a unique experience of cultural and geographical exchange. <...> The traditional way of life of the indigenous peoples of the North is an integral part of the geographical and cultural code of Russia," said Matvey Chuprov, Chairman of the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society.

Earlier, on November 16, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the scale and relevance of the "Geographical Dictation". He also expressed his appreciation to the organizers of the dictation: the Russian Geographical Society and the team of volunteers. Putin noted that thanks to them, the action always takes place at a high level and remains in the memory of all participants.
