Finland has launched a joint large-scale military exercise with the United Kingdom, Northern Axe 25, near the borders of the Russian Federation in the city of Kuhmo. This was announced on November 28 by the Yle portal.

"Cooperation with the British unit strengthens the compatibility between the allies," the portal quotes the director of the exercises, Brigadier General Ari Laaksonen.

The publication noted that the purpose of the exercises is to prepare troops for defensive, decelerating, offensive and night battles in difficult northern conditions.

About 3,000 people took part in the exercises, of which 600 were reservists. Troops from the border districts of Kainu and North Karelia were also involved.

About 600 pieces of equipment are used at the event, including battle tanks, two NH90 transport helicopters and one MD 500 light helicopter from the Utti Jaeger regiment, as well as drone equipment.

It is specified that from November 29 to December 1, the troops of the exercises will move from the Kayaani garrison to the Vuosanka training ground, where most of the operations will take place.

These are the last combat exercises for conscripts who will soon be demobilized before being transferred to the reserve. Reservists train both on the combat missions of a provincial company and on the tasks of various headquarters.

Earlier, on November 27, it was reported that the Lively Sentry military exercises with the participation of 6.5 thousand military personnel began in Finland on the border with Russia. It was noted that 900 units of equipment will also be involved in the events.
