The German economy is currently in a vulnerable position, and further reforms are needed to strengthen it, said German Minister of Economy and Energy Katerina Reiche. This was reported on November 29 to the newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

"But yes, we see new risks — trade conflicts, duties, export restrictions from China," her words are quoted in the publication.

Thus, Reiche commented on the government's forecast for 2026, according to which economic growth will be 1.3%. She described the state of the German economy as "vulnerable."

She stated that the country is facing a massive loss of trust, which calls into question the ability to maintain and modernize the industrial base.

Ahead of the meeting with industry representatives and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Reiche noted that the economy plays a key role in ensuring defense capability, including protecting personnel, infrastructure, and supplies of critical components.

Earlier, on November 28, Reiche reported that German economic structures are currently uncompetitive due to excessive regulation, high energy prices and cultural barriers. She noted that Germany has burdened its enterprises with excessive regulation, high energy prices due to erroneous energy policies and created a welfare state that puts a strain on jobs.
